Final Words

A pair of friends stood upon a stage testing its sound,
While workers checked every cable, stand, and light.
Sebastian spoke. His words rang clear and round.
“Now that's a mic drop!” the sound man laughed aloud.
Jimmy knocked his friend's mic loose. It crashed outright.
Silence wove about them, leaving the crew in dismay.
"Why?" Sebastian groaned, “That wasn't what was meant.”
Jimmy beamed and pointed, “He explained the proper way.
Every closing ought to finish with such sway.”
"That isn't the idea," the sound man said, his spirit spent.
Another man placed a mic in Sebastian's hand.
Sebastian thanked the crew for helping set the scene.
Jimmy reached out, as though by firm command,
And released the microphone beside the stand.
“The ending must land! That's how they're always seen.”
Sebastian rubbed his brow before one more reply.
“If you please, I think we're ready now to start.”
Jimmy frowned, “That hardly sounds like a last goodbye.
Your ending needs more work." He knocked the mic awry.
Sebastian sighed, “You've turned rehearsal into art...”
