Hidden Theft

Upon completion of Evading Pursuit, I turned my attention to the second story for my patrons, a crime caper. While I enjoy exploring crime with Jessica, I wanted to twist the formula this time. So, instead of following her actions, I’m blending this tale with a hint of a mystery. As a result, I’m tapping Kyle Rickman to oversee Jessica’s criminal act.

While my patrons know Jessica is a master thief, my investigator doesn’t know she is the master thief he’s hunting. His name for her is The Apparition, since the thief never leaves a trace of her identity.

So find a chair and curl up to follow the Apparition’s latest crime.

Having been hired to protect a company’s goods, Kyle Rickman is with a pair of security guards searching for evidence of an upcoming theft…

Hidden Theft

Kyle inched closer to the towering wall of screens and flicked an inner display. He pressed his fingertip against it as his head turned toward the guards perched in front of the monitors. With a glance at the heavier one’s nameplate, Kyle’s head swept back and forth. “Alan, are you sure nothing can get inside?”

“There’s no way anyone unauthorized will bypass our security,” Alan said, waving a dismissive hand at the screen beneath Kyle’s finger. “I don’t know why our bosses insisted you babysit us tonight.”

“They wanted me here because I discover things others overlook, including the police.” The investigator clapped his hands as he walked around the guards and stared into another screen. “Whoever is coming has hit other facilities who shared your confidence in their security, right until the thief swiped the goods in question.”

“Why are you convinced this mysterious thief is going to break into our building?” The second guard tugged on his hat as he shrugged. “It’s not like we have a vault filled with anything that anyone would consider valuable.”

“Everything can be valuable when someone’s desire is strong enough.” The detective’s eyes washed over a handful of screens. “Besides, your bosses’ boss understands that there are key items a crook would go to great lengths to steal.”

“Such as?” Alan asked.
