As the month winds down, I turned my attention to the month’s last stories for all my supporters. While I’m almost done with the next piece for my patrons, I needed a little more time to wrap it up, so I grabbed the final bit of micro-fiction. When I first sat down in front of the keyboard, I didn’t know how I was going to blend the story cube prompts into a finished story. Thankfully, after staring at my screen for several painfully unproductive seconds, a thought thundered through my mind. A simple way to inject drama into any tale is to play on familial ties. With plenty of drama thanks to a pair of feuding siblings, the lightning bolt and lock helped me flesh out the remaining words for this pint-sized tale.

Harbor

As the door cracked open, raindrops rolled off a man’s chin. With a smile, he released the heavy knocker, letting it collide with its metal plate. However, the security chain kept the gap from expanding. The rain-soaked fellow pressed his face against the opening. “Won’t you let me in?”

“Why would I invite you inside?”

The soaking individual pounded his fists against the wall as his eyes narrowed. “How about because you’re my brother and the massive thunderstorm?”

“That’s irrelevant, since I don’t like you.”

A lightning bolt illuminated the night sky.
