When I set out to craft this tale, I knew Tiatha would take center stage. But rather than simply showcasing another showing her power, I wanted to explore the world she now moves through, the shifter’s territory. While I’ve hinted at this being a land teeming with both primal energy and political fractures, it’s been mostly unexplored. Now it’s time to step into that world and see it through Tiatha’s eyes. Despite being among allies, how secure Tiatha is amidst these unstable neighbors? What unspoken tensions simmer beneath the surface? These were the questions I hadn’t yet explored, and they offered a rich well of inspiration.
But conflict for conflict’s sake doesn’t always make for the best story. It doesn’t always have to erupt in grand battles or dramatic showdowns. Sometimes, the most revealing moments arise from something as simple as a walk. Classic fairy tales have long proven that even the most ordinary actions, such as wandering through a forest or visiting a relative, can carry profound consequences. In a similar manner, this micro-tale may seem straightforward on the surface: Tiatha making her way to a neighboring tribe. Yet, beneath this simple premise lies a deeper look at power, control, and the fragile nature of alliances.
This story isn’t just about where Tiatha is going, but rather what she learns along the way. And perhaps, more importantly, what those around her learn about her.
Come, sit down and allow me to give you a mini-escape and kindle your imagination.
The large man’s hands altered into paws as he rolled his head about his shoulders. “Why am I accompanying you, Tiatha?”
“Lander, I’m aware you prefer staying in your bear form.” She grabbed his arm and laid her head on his shoulder. “However, since I’m not a shifter, politeness demands a human companion while walking to the village.”
He extended his hand palm toward the sky as if to catch raindrops. “Something’s wrong.”
“Is it?” Tiatha asked as her eyes drifted toward the forest. As Tiatha’s mouth opened, the tip of her tongue ran across her lips while Tiatha tightened her grasp on Lander’s arm.
