Art Roundup, week of March 30th

Photography has a wonderful way of encouraging you to slow down and soak in the world’s beauty, not simply glancing at it. During my stroll along Bethel Beach, I found the beach house and its surrounding landscape enticing. There was a quiet charm in observing it, though not in the obvious way you’d typically consider. Instead of fixating on the structure itself or the individual components of the landscape, I allowed my camera to find the subtle poetry of the scene. The movement of grass, the dancing light with shadows, and how perspective can transform something familiar into something extraordinary. If you see any images here that aren’t available on Natural Desygns or SM Desygns reach out to me through the Etsy store and I’ll add the image to the correct store. In the meantime, click any of the images to head over to DeviantArt to get a better look.

Hopefully, you’ve come to realize that I’m obsessed with exploring the world and capturing things from as many different perspectives as I can. So I simply turned away from the house, keeping my camera’s focus on the grass. Granted there isn’t anything in the distance that requires focus. And that presented me with another lovely beachscape to share.

As I continued my walk along Bethel Beach, I paused next to a clump of long grasses. Through the swaying blades, I caught sight of the beach house against the backdrop of the sky and sea. Since I’ve been experimenting with my shots, I let my focus drift to the foreground, allowing the house to blur. Despite a lack of detail, is amazing how much of its structure remained recognizable as a quiet presence nestled within the scenery. The soft blur gave it an almost dreamlike quality. As if it belonged to another time or another world. Especially since it was framed by the wild grasses and the endless expanse of the coast. The view captured not just a place, but a feeling of peace.

The best sights in life often come from a simple shift in perspective. While my previous shot focused on a dense cluster of long grass, this time, I moved until I was presented with a handful of delicate stalks. The result was a wonderful contrast to the previous one. With fewer blades in focus, the ocean took on a more commanding presence, stretching further into view while the beach house receded to the periphery. The shift in balance between land and sea created a new balance, one where simplicity shined through. It serves as another reminder that the smallest changes in angle can reveal an entirely new wonder in a familiar world.
