Forged Circuit

In war, ingenuity often becomes the last defense between survival and ruin. This story plunges us into a moment of uneasy recovery, where humans and dwarves patch walls, tensions run high, and history and necessity test an uneasy alliance. The heart of this scene is a pair of leaders with different outlooks on the current situation. One is a pragmatic, rallying his people to create powerful machines, the other is a warrior with little patience for promises.

What follows is not a pitched battle against the ever-present horde, but something far quieter and perhaps more consequential. In the lull between clashes with the devastating monsters of the world, Jarvis is prepared to highlight new innovations from his engineers. However, a strange hum in the air marks the arrival of a prototype that might shift the tide. Or it might not.

If you’re drawn to stories where technology collides with fantasy, where dragons and shapeshifters pose real and terrifying threats, and where even the smallest of devices can carry the weight of everyone’s hope, then this tale is for you. Will Cecile’s newest creations sway Gilras? Or will he question the wisdom behind Jarvis’s relentless drive for invention?

Gilras’s foot tapped the ground with a slow, steady force, like an axe splitting wood. Between strikes, Jarvis rested his hand against the dwarf’s shoulder. “Cecile will be out shortly.”

“Why not produce more… drones?”

Jarvis wiped his lips as he grinned. “Those drones are magnificent for their purpose.”

“You don’t have enough to dent the horde.”

“Gilras, their purpose was to pave the way to Cecile’s newest prototype.”

The king dropped his axe’s twin blades to the ground, his grip tightening around the shaft. He glared at Jarvis as he pointed at the dwarves and humans toiling at the breach. “You say that while we’re repairing your wall.”

Jarvis took a deep breath and clapped Gilras’s back. He gripped his hands behind him as he paced towards the construction site. About ten paces away, he bent down and lifted a piece of rubble. He tossed the hunk into the air and grabbed it. “The wall didn’t fall because we lacked enough drones.”
