Hunting Allies

As another month continues to churn, I looked over my Wattpad stories. While I have two planned, I pulled out an older draft in the Discovery storyline and began preparing it for release. After several rounds of revisions, I’m ready to bring it to the world.

Beneath the canopy of Morven’s vast forests, the search for new allies carries both hope and peril. In this chapter, the crew of Discovery Squadron ventures into unfamiliar skies, their instruments crackling with signs of life. Yet their struggling technology offers no guarantees of answers.

Fenton shoulders the weight of command, balancing discipline and banter with his team as they descend toward a stretch of trees that might finally bring them face-to-face with the elusive elves. Dragons may prowl the skies, shadows may stir beneath the branches, but it is the silence of these long-lost neighbors that weighs heaviest.

Are they allies waiting to be rediscovered, or will they becomes foes unwilling to forget the past?

Hunting Allies

“Discovery Five, do you see anything?”

“That’s a negative, Flight one.”

Fenton narrowed his scanner and gripped his radio. He lowered his craft to the treetops and sighed. “Focus on the wildlife. I’d rather not get blindsided by another dragon.”

“I’m not sure what you expected to deal with here, Discovery leader.” A second ship banked and hovered over Fenton’s vessel, its pilot waving down at him. A moment later, it rolled to fly beside Fenton’s craft. “We’re clear, but I wouldn’t mind stretching my wings a bit.”

“Dyrk, quit showing off. Focus your sensors, or we’ll miss the elves.”

“Whatever you say, boss.” Dyrk’s ship drifted out of sight. “Though let’s take some time in locating these potential new allies.”

Fenton brushed the sweat from his brow before he shook his head. He adjusted his scanners and slowed his vessel. As the craft roared along the treetops, Fenton’s eyes flicked to the scanner. “Even with Cecile’s refinements, the sensors are still showing an overwhelming number of life signs.”

“That doesn’t mean we’ve found the mysterious and aloof creatures that were once allies of our predecessors.”

“That’s enough, Discovery Two,” Fenton said as he gripped the craft’s controls. He glanced at the sensors and cursed before he dove through the canopy. Once below the sprawling branches, Fenton slowed the vessel, bringing it to a hover inside the obscured glade. With a grunt, he drifted into sight and lowered it to the forest floor. He rubbed his neck and leaned back in his seat. “The sensors picked out a clearing near a stream cutting through the woods.”
