Checkout Receipts

Two friends bickered near the crowded checkout line.
Sebastian grinned wide and said, “Receipts will help us win.”
At once, Jimmy’s eyes lit up with grand design,
As though the world itself concealed a hidden sign,
He scanned the carts for proof on curling strips within.
He slammed both palms against the rails near the sweets,
Then spun and jabbed the register with booming pride.
“The bloke before us bought three socks. Produce receipts!”
The cashier blinked while Jimmy searched the paper fleets,
Sebastian cursed as the little receipts spread wide.
Yet the printer continued spitting paper across the floor,
Sebastian lunged and caught the ribbon near the scale.
He twisted up the paper trail and backed toward the door.
“We need online proof, not shoppers fearing war!”
Yet Jimmy chased a shopper yelling, “Fraud beneath the kale!”
“You bought a pretzel twenty minutes back at least!”
Jimmy cried while hurdling displays and leaping crates.
“You bought those chips in haste! Produce the full receipt!”
Sebastian cursed while paper cinched around his feet,
As chocolate bars burst free beside the swinging gates.
