When I finished writing Hidden Welcome, I shifted the focus dedicated to my micro fiction to the next tale. When I’d originally planned out the micro tales for 2025, this was designated to be a sci-fi tale. Yet, when I sat down to sketch out the initial draft, there wasn’t anything else for me to use. Fortunately, as the days progressed, some forgotten detail teased Quark to the forefront of my mind. And with nothing else floating about my mind, a story flowed through me, centering around an owner/the captain of a ship and an arms dealer.

Now I’m not trying to create the illusion of an illicit businessman. That’s something for you after reading the micro tale. But I digress. With the skeleton of this story in place, it didn’t take me long to slide the captain of the Drifter II into this exchange. Despite admitting this story stemming from Deep Space Nine’s favorite bartender, neither Charles nor this merchant has anything in common with Quark.

Besides business, early comparisons with the Ferengi are impossible and unwarranted. After all, he just entered Charles’s world. But that’s beside the point. Granted, aside from talking about a spaceship and being on a space station, there’s more drama to this than real sci-fi, but you should still enjoy it. Get comfortable and join me as we listen into a negotiation to equip the Drifter II. Will Charles come to a deal for seemingly exceptional goods?

Come, sit down and allow me to give you a mini-escape and kindle your imagination.

“You’ve corroborated my reputation.” With a smile, the man’s angular face grew harsher as he collected his property. As his artificial smile widened, the merchant clicked his drink against Charles’s. “Anything catch your eye? It would be a shame if a lack of armaments doomed your mighty vessel.”
